Celebrate the International Year of the Nurse and the

Centennial of the Death of Florence Nightingale

 

7 - 10:30 AM              Travel to Washington, DC on a Perkiomen coach (has restroom)

10:30 – 1 PM              Time to have lunch on your own. The Cathedral staff provided the names of 3 restaurants within 1½ blocks of the Cathedral.

                                    Or bring a brown bag lunch

                                    Visit the Museum Store (10% discount for Tour and Tea participants), the ÒDreamers and Believers ExhibitÓ on the Nave level, or watch the video of the Cathedral construction

12 Noon                      Eucharist Service (for those who want to attend)

12:30 PM                    Most Wednesdays there is an organ demonstration in the choir area

1 – 1:15 PM                Meet in the Nave for the tour. Wear comfortable shoes, binoculars are helpful, photos can be taken when there is no service in process.

1:30 – 2:45                  Healing Arts Tour. Throughout the Cathedral, people practicing the healing arts are depicted in needlework, bronze, stained glass, and carved stone. From Jesus performing miracles to Florence NightingaleÕs transformation of the nursing profession, tour participants explore the fascinating stories told in these varied works of art.

                                    Kathleen Smith, a Retired Navy Nurse, will be our docent.

2:45 – 3:30 PM           Traditional afternoon tea includes finger sandwiches, cookies, scones with clotted cream, hot tea, and a scenic view of Washington. Tea is served in the Pilgrim Observation Gallery.

3:45 – 7 PM                Travel home.

 

Cost is $80 and includes transportation, driver gratuity, Cathedral Healing Arts Tour and Afternoon Tea.
