Public Health Visiting Nurses Exhibit

Public Health and Visiting Nurses have served valiantly in many locations and varied situations. The Museum of Nursing History has many informative articles on display for our visitors that recognize the skills of the nurses in this very challenging field. The Museum has these wonderful articles thanks to our many donors and supporters and the display can be found on the first floor of the Benilde Tower building, La Salle University.

Visiting Nurses pioneered the way for home health care as we know it today. Take a look back at the history behind the formation of the Visting Nurses Association, which was founded in New York, NY in 1889 by Lillian D. Wald. However, district visiting nurses associations were around longer than that, in Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Buffalo.

In 2004, the U.S. Congress estimated that nearly 4,000,000 Americans were receiving care through visiting nurses’ services.
